The school year for students is broken up into four terms with a two week break in between each term:

• Term one: Feb.-April

• Term two: May-July

• Term three: Aug.-Sept.

• Term four: Oct.-Dec.

Students are divided into classrooms by year 0/1, year 2, year 3/4, year 5/6 and year 7/8. The students arrive to school at about 8:30 and end the day at 2:55pm. Students in year 0/1 have the option of ending their day at 2:30 as Swanson School finds this earlier ending beneficial because young students become very tried in the afternoon and this allows parents the time to come and talk with the teacher.Within the school day all students also get a built in morning tea. Durning free play, they have what is called "No Rule Recess." No Rule Recess encourages students to problem solve on their own and allows them to take risks while playing. During this time students are allows to do pretty much anything from sliding down mudslides and climbing trees to simply relaxing laying in the grass talking.
